「on board」の「board」は板(ボード)という意味です。
英語では、車や電車、飛行機やバスなどに「乗る」ことを「ボードに乗る」という感覚で表現します。
機長さんや、客室乗務員の仕事をしている人も、この表現を使って自分の仕事について説明できるかもしれません。
