key point of reported speech 

he said that he woke up about 7 AM. 

said ならば that 節もpast tenseになる。

but If he said "I woke up about 7 AM. "

→he said that he had woken up about 7AM.  〇correct

 In actual, you can use past tense at the sentence instead of past perefect.

either is fine.

しかし状況が変わっていなときには、that節は過去形にしない。

仕事が退屈だと思っていた。

今も思っているならばpresent

今は違うならば past tense

deference of say and tell

tell includes direction

say not includes dairection, so we need "to"
